Charleston Happenings Vol. 50

It’s mostly about the restaurants in this issue. Remember what I said about our embarrassment of riches?

They keep opening. 😋😁

Chicken Wings Dipped In Queso!?

Yes, it is a thing. And while I haven’t tried it yet, it got me wondering why I never thought to combine chicken wings and queso myself.

Cleats is open on Meeting Street Road downtown. It’s being described by its owner as a “modern take on the typical sports bar.”

I’ve heard they’ll be showing plenty of soccer matches, so when I’m not at Brewlab watching Liverpool Football Club reign supreme, I’ll definitely head to Cleats.

New Mount Pleasant Restaurant Brings Brasserie Format To Greek Cuisine

I could eat food from the Mediterranean region 7 days per week. Particularly Greek cuisine. Now I have another great option in the area.

Taverna Philosophia is open in the former Bacco space in Mount Pleasant.

The same duo that owns Philosophia in the Whole Foods shopping center opened this new restaurant. They describe their newest offering as “more of a feast” than Philosophia, which is focused on small plates.

They encourage diners to “tuck their napkins into their shirts and dig in”. Sounds about right.

Palmira Barbecue Opens In West Ashley

It seems like it took Palmira Barbecue FOREVER to open in West Ashley.

I just think they did a masterful job of posting mouthwatering photos on Instagram. Maybe it really didn’t take them that long.

Early reviews are that the food is outstanding. Of course, I’ve been hearing that about Hector Garate’s popups for a while.

New Waterfront Park Coming To Isle of Palms This Year

If you haven’t been to the area around Isle Of Palms Marina in a while, you’re missing out. Islander 71 opened in the summer of 2022, and was a complete rebuild of the old Morgan Creek Grill.

And the Marina Market was also rebuilt and debuted a larger building a while back. Complete with the breakfast sandwiches they’ve been known for.

Now the last phase of the project will include a waterfront park.
