Husk Owners Open New Restaurant On James Island

Husk has been around for a while in Charleston. Since they opened in 2010, more than a few restaurants have come and gone. Yet they continue to execute well, a very tough thing to do in the brutally competitive restaurant business.

Now James Island residents have that kind of quality to look forward to. The James opened on July 17 in the space formerly occupied by Zia Taqueria

New Coffee Shop To Open in August On Johns Island

Retail space doesn't seem to stay vacant for long in the Charleston area. Where one entrepreneur's dream might not work out, another's gets a fresh start.

Soho Footwear Retailer Plans Store On King Street

The footwear brand Loeffler Randall’s first retail store, which opened in 2021, was in NYC’s SoHo neighborhood, a common destination for fashion brands. But the second store, which the brand will open later this fall, is in a less expected location.

They plan to open in the lower King Street building at 145 King which is currently being renovated.

Will Lidl Ever Open In Mount Pleasant!?

This is pure speculation on our part, but why not? Our answer is no.

The leasing agent for the Bowman Place shopping center announced on its Facebook page on October 7, 2021 that the German grocer would open in early 2022. The Post & Courier reported on July 11, 2022 that Lidl had stopped work on 2 Charleston-area stores, including the one at Bowman Place. Finally, Lidl announced yesterday they were closing 11 stores around the country, including 2 in South Carolina.

Charleston's retail scene is so vibrant I'm not the least bit worried. If I were still a retail leasing agent, I'd be telling Lidl to terminate their lease already--with a termination payment, of course--so I could find a retailer who WANTS to open in Charleston.
