Charleston Happenings Vol. 31

White Duck Taco Shop Opens In Mount Pleasant!

Why the exclamation point? Frankly, we were beginning to get worried about this venture.

There was a long gap between the banner going up on the building announcing it was coming, and an update from their owner in April that they were "close to opening".  After all, the lease was signed in May of 2021.

This typically means there are construction issues.  Or other snafus which often includes funding issues.

But no worries! We now have another restaurant to dine at in the Charleston area. White Duck Taco Shop opened May 17 at 341 Johnnie Dodds Boulevard.

King & Queen Building on Lower King Street Announce New Retailers

Why is this big news? Because if you're like me--OK, you probably didn't lease retail space for a living for 30+ years!--every time you walked past the office building on the west side of King Street in the 100 block, you probably thought "What a missed opportunity!".

That's about to change.

Farm Haus Butcher & Beer Garden Opening In Mount Pleasant

A space that's been dark for a while will soon have a new restaurant operating in it.

Farm Haus Butcher & Beer Garden, from a town called Indian Land, SC (a Charlotte exurb) will open in the Moultrie Plaza Shopping Center. We talked with the restaurant owner, and they told us "hopefully in June".

Farm Haus is known for their sausages and meats, all of which are handcrafted on site using an Old World process, Heritage breed pork, and ethically-raised chicken and beef.

The owners of a century-plus-old downtown Charleston jewelry store plan to add a new location on lower King Street.

They bought their new 6,000-square-foot building, which once housed women’s clothing boutique Ooh! Ooh! Shoes, in January for $3.375 million.
